Message-ID: Hello Songcirclers, Please excuse any cross-postings. Between this listserv, facebook and my regular list, I may have gotten to some of you more than once. One of the best parts of summer is singing outdoors, and I am really looking forward to singing out in Caroline's backyard at the songcircle this Friday. But before that there is another opportunity. Come sing Canadian folk songs with me and Ranald Thurgood at the Billings Estate Museum, this Wednesday for Canada Day and on July 19 as part of a Heritage Day event. We have chosen mostly chorus songs and will be encouraging everyone to sing along, while also talking a little bit about the historical context of the songs. Here are the details for Canada Day: Singing Our Heritage: Canadian Folk Songs July 1, noon to 2 pm As part of Dominion Day 11 am to 4 pm Billings Estate Museum 2100 Cabot Street Admission: $6/person or $15/family. I don't have all the details yet for July 19, but will fill you in closer to the time if you are interested. Here is a link to the Billings webpage, to give you the directions and more information about what else is going on at these events. http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/heritage/museums/billings/index_en.html I am still offering an drop-in singing class every Tuesday, in my home, from 7 to 9 pm. It is a small group but we are having fun. Please call or email if you are planning to come, so I know who to expect. See you soon, Maura _____________________ Maura Volante www.mauravolante.ca maura at mauravolante.ca 613.277.9208 From carolinebp at sympatico.ca Tue Jun 30 23:51:35 2009 From: carolinebp at sympatico.ca (Caroline Parry) Date: Tue, 30 Jun 2009 23:51:35 -0400 Subject: [song-circle] song ircle at Caroline PArry's this Friday Message-ID: Hello all --the usual timing of 6:30 for potluck and 7:30 for singing applies --looking forward to seeing you all! I have a dear old friend, Eunice MAthers, from my Hull, Yorkshire days visiting. I'm not sure how well I am fixed for dishes and utensils, however, as many things here are packed. If anyone has plastic dishes or extra cutlery they could bring, that we can wash rather than throw away, can you let me know? And if we can meet outdoors, if it isn't rainy, please bring extra lawn chairs. Directions: to 90 Britannia Road, which runs N. off Carling, right after Carling crosses Richmond. If you are driving West on C it is easy, but not otherwise, as C is divided. So, turn R on Britannia Rd, immediately after Carling crosses Richmond. Going down, or North, on Brit Rd. you will be in suburbia for about 6 blocks til the first stop sign, at Poulin/Howe, which is also at the bike path --that's where the old trolley line ran to bring city folks to Britannia Beach. Then you're in the village of Britannia proper; continue north on Brit Rd two long blocks to another stop sign at Jamison St (river/bay to your left); go one more long bock to a small intersection at Rowatt, no stop sign. I am the second house on the left after Rowatt --use either drive to park. (If you get to the Yacht CLub, you've gone too far). Coming from the Queensway, or #417, take the Pinecrest/Greenbank exit. Then head N towards the river on Pinecrest --but you can't turn R on Carling and get to Britannia Rd because of the dividing barrier. Nor can you go straight down the hill into the park, because there's a buses only lane that separates the areas. You will go through 3 lights and 3 stop signs. So merge R on Richmond [first light], cross Carling at the next light (an X shaped intersection) and turn L on Poulin at the next light. Follow Poulin through one stop sign and a sharp L turn to Britannia Road [next stop sign], where you will be at the bike path, and turn R, proceed as above, going north on Brit Rd.
