Hello Ottawa contra dancers...

Exciting dance coming up in a week's time (Feb 6th) and it involves a change in the schedule!

We were to have Nancy Turner calling (never fear, she'll be coming later in spring) but instead we have the super-talented ***ADINA GORDON***. Some of you will have seen her at the Figments dance in Ottawa last spring or at Ooh La La two years ago. If you haven't seen her, just know that she travels the continent to call and is super fabulous!

SpoutBec is the band for next Saturday ... a new band to contra dance playing made up of some very talented music from up in the Gatineau Hills. Here's their bio:
"SpoutBec plays traditional music in non-traditional ways. This Wakefield-based quartet combines accordions, fiddles, standup bass, ukulele, drums, piano and horns to create new musical worlds where various forms meet to tango: Clezmer frailachs, French-Canadian reels, Irish jigs, Cajun two-steps, New Orleans marches, Cabaret-era swing, folk standards and Honky-Tonk all surface in this band’s diverse repertoire. SpoutBec members developed their improvisational approach to traditional music through years of playing in other ensembles, from Peterborough’s “Silver Hearts” (Brian Sanderson) and “Freshwater Trade” (Peter Andrée) to Montreal’s “Godspeed you! Black Emperor.” (Bruce Cawdron) and Wakefield’s “Alligator Playboys” (Denis Drouin). The guys promise to remain relatively tame for a night of fine contra-dance music, but you never know what might happen! "

Invite your friends and join us after the dance for some socializing at Whispers, a pub just down the road.
