Dear dancers,
We will be hosting our annual Morris dance weekend on July 24-26, and
we're expecting about 40 dancers and guests from Toronto and various
points in the US to participate. It has been our custom in previous
years to find billets for most of these folks, and we need a couple of
extra hosts this year to accommodate a somewhat larger attendance than
usual. Essentially, we're looking for people who can provide one or more
beds for Fri 24th and Sat 25th, and a place to shower. If you feel like
feeding your guests breakfast on Saturday that would be appreciated but
not essential. All other meals are taken care of.
We would prefer to billet people as close as possible to our place (near
Island Park and Wellington), but any offer of hospitality will be
appreciated and considered. All hosts are welcome to join us for dinner,
singing etc, on Saturday evening. Be reassured that today's morris
dancers are generally well behaved and friendly, unlike some of their
Victorian predecessors.
For anyone wishing to see some dancing on Sat 25th, we plan to be on
Sparks Street from about 11:15 to 12:45, and after lunch at Darcy
McGee's will probably head over to the market (courtyard just off Sussex
between Clarence and Murray), maybe stopping to dance somewhere on the
way. Morris dancing, for those who don't know, is a form of traditional
ceremonial English dancing, usually done in the street, on the village
green or outside the pub. It involves bells, handkerchiefs, sticks,
accordions, fiddles, fools and beer.
Please email ian at ianrobb.com if you can help us, or need more information.
Thanks,
Ian
